Born in the dust and colour of Kutch, The Ajrakh Studio is a tribute to a craft that has endured for over five centuries — and the hands that keep it alive.
Ajrakh is not merely a textile. It is a conversation between the earth, water, sky, and fire — each element leaving its mark on cloth through a labour of devotion that spans weeks. The Ajrakh Studio was founded with a single purpose: to bring this extraordinary heritage to those who appreciate beauty made with intention.
We are rooted in Anjar, Kutch — a region whose artisan communities have practised the ancient art of block-printing for generations, their knowledge passed down father to son, in workshops that smell of indigo and age-old wooden blocks.
True Ajrakh requires patience. A single piece of cloth may pass through sixteen or more stages — resist printing with natural pastes, immersion in plant-based dyes, sun-drying, washing in the river — before it is ready to be worn. The result is a depth of colour and pattern that cannot be replicated by machines.
We work exclusively with master craftsmen who use natural dyes: indigo, madder, pomegranate rind, turmeric, and iron-enriched mud. Every colour you see on our fabrics comes from the earth itself.
Each piece in The Ajrakh Studio collection is handcrafted in limited quantities. We offer sarees, dupattas, stoles, yardage fabric, and ready-to-wear garments — all bearing the geometric precision and earthy palette that define authentic Ajrakh.
Because no two blocks fall identically, and no two dye baths are perfectly alike, every piece you receive is, in the truest sense, one of a kind.
We believe that when you choose Ajrakh, you do not just acquire a beautiful object — you become part of a story of survival, skill, and cultural pride. We are committed to ensuring our artisans receive fair wages, safe working conditions, and the recognition they deserve.
“Wear the story. Carry the heritage.”
